Exclusive Specialists: Javanese Lulur

Please allow two hours! Lulur is a traditional exfoliation ritual combined with massage, derived from the royal palaces of central Java. Traditionally it would have been applied daily for 40 days prior to marriage celebrations. Lulur is still used in the days leading up to nuptials.

Balinese massage is followed by a body masque of herbs, roots, spices and flowers, it's allowed to dry and scrubbed off removing dead skin cells, leaving the skin softened and fragrant. The body masque is rinsed with yoghurt, which is nutritious for the skin adding enzymes and acting as a natural moisturiser. The Balinese believe that flowers are cooling, calming and spiritually balancing so a flower lotion is used to freshen the body as a final flourish.
